Gramercy District

Gramercy District

Known as Gramercy, Gramercy Park, and the Gramercy Park Historic District is a small area of the Manhattan borough of New York City, named specifically for the small, fenced in Private Park at its core. The approximately two acre park is one of only two private parks in New York City; only the people residing around the park who pay an annual fee have a key, and the public is not generally allowed in—although the sidewalks of the streets around the park are a popular jogging, strolling, and dog-walking route.

Nineteenth century brownstones and carriage houses abound, though the 1920s brought the onset of tenant apartments and skyscrapers to the area.
